Coach Kyle Shanahan remains optimistic about kicker Jake Moody’s future despite his struggles this season with the 49ers
SANTA CLARA: The 49ers are having a rough go this season, and their kicker, Jake Moody, is feeling the heat. He’s made 23 out of 30 field goals, which isn’t great compared to last year’s 84 percent. Coach Shanahan is still in Moody’s corner, though. He knows it’s been a tough year for him.
Shanahan mentioned that before Moody got hurt, he was doing pretty well. He only missed one kick out of 13 attempts. But then, during a game, he sprained his ankle while trying to tackle someone. That sidelined him for a bit, and when he came back, he struggled to find his rhythm.
Moody missed three kicks in a game against the Buccaneers, and it’s been a bit of a rollercoaster since then. Shanahan believes that the injury has affected Moody’s consistency. He’s hopeful that with some time to heal, Moody can get back to his best form.
Interestingly, all of Moody’s misses have been on the road. He’s had some tough games in places like Los Angeles and Buffalo. Moody himself admits that coming back from an injury has been a learning experience. He’s trying to get back to where he was before the injury, which isn’t easy.
But the good news is that Shanahan, the coaching staff, and his teammates are all backing him up. Moody feels their support, and it really helps boost his confidence. He knows he just needs to keep working hard and stay focused.
