Santa Clara: So, Kyle Shanahan just promoted Klay Kubiak to offensive coordinator for the 49ers. This is a big deal since it’s only the second time in nine years they’ve had a new OC.

Kubiak, who’s been the passing game specialist, will officially take on the coordinator title next season. Shanahan mentioned that Kubiak did a great job calling plays in their last game against the Cardinals, even though he’ll still be the main play-caller.

Shanahan praised Kubiak, saying he’s been a key player in the offense for the last couple of years. It’s like he’s been doing the job all along, just without the title. Now he finally gets the recognition he deserves.

Interestingly, Shanahan will still be the only coach with direct communication to the quarterback during games. This promotion is more about acknowledging Kubiak’s hard work and contributions to the team’s game plans.

In the past, Mike McDaniel was the only other assistant to hold the OC title under Shanahan. He moved up in 2021 before becoming the head coach for the Miami Dolphins. It’ll be interesting to see how Kubiak steps up in this new role!
