Coach Kyle Shanahan expresses confidence in Brock Purdy’s competitive spirit despite the quarterback’s recent self-doubt.
San Francisco: So, Brock Purdy recently said he feels like he needs to play with a “chip” on his shoulder again. He thinks he’s not been as competitive this season. But Coach Kyle Shanahan isn’t buying it.
Shanahan spoke to reporters and made it clear he believes Purdy is already competitive enough. He said he heard about Purdy’s comments during a radio show and thinks Purdy is just trying to say something for the media. Shanahan said, “He has as big of a chip on his shoulder as any player I’ve been around.”
Purdy had an amazing start to his NFL career, leading the 49ers to a solid record and throwing a ton of touchdowns. But this season has been rough for him. He’s thrown only 15 touchdowns and has nine interceptions, which isn’t great.
Last year, he was a star, finishing fourth in MVP voting with impressive stats. But now, the 49ers are struggling, sitting at 6-8, and it’s clear they have a lot of issues to sort out.
Even though Purdy is owning up to his part in the team’s struggles, Shanahan seems pretty confident that Purdy doesn’t need to worry about finding that “chip” again.
