The Ravens have claimed Diontae Johnson, but he can’t play this postseason and will be a free agent in March
Baltimore: So, Diontae Johnson is back with the Ravens, kind of. They just claimed him after the Texans let him go. But here’s the kicker: he can’t play for the rest of the postseason.
Under NFL rules, he won’t officially join the Ravens until after the Super Bowl. Plus, he’s set to become a free agent in March, so it’s not like he’ll be a big part of the team anytime soon.
So, why did the Ravens go for him? It’s probably all about those compensatory picks. If Johnson signs with another team later, the Ravens could benefit from that loss in the compensatory pick formula. It’s a smart move for the future.
Johnson was a third-round pick by the Steelers back in 2019 and showed some real talent. But his career took a nosedive in 2024. He’s been traded around a lot, from the Steelers to the Panthers, then to the Ravens, cut, claimed by the Texans, and now back to the Ravens.
He’ll be looking to sign with a new team in 2025. Depending on how that goes, the Ravens might see some benefits in 2026. It’s all a bit of a chess game, isn’t it?
