The Patriots reveal that the NFL currently prohibits teams from using BlueSky
Foxborough: So, it turns out a lot of folks are jumping on BlueSky, which is like Twitter but without all the drama. But here’s the kicker: the Patriots just said that the NFL isn’t letting any teams join BlueSky yet.
Fred Kirsch, who’s the VP of content for the Kraft Sports + Entertainment group, spilled the beans on the Patriots Unfiltered podcast. He mentioned they had a BlueSky account for a hot minute, but the league told them to take it down since it’s not an approved platform for the NFL right now. He’s hopeful they’ll be back on BlueSky once the NFL gives the thumbs up.
It’s a bit puzzling why the NFL hasn’t given BlueSky the green light yet. Maybe it’s tied to their deal with Twitter? Who knows? But this whole situation raises some eyebrows about whether it’s fair. Each NFL team is its own business, and they should be able to choose where they want to be on social media.
BlueSky could really use the NFL teams to boost its presence, but it seems like they’re getting the short end of the stick here. Hopefully, the NFL isn’t just waiting for some kind of sign from Twitter before making a move.
