The New York Jets have appointed Aaron Glenn, former Lions DC, as their new head coach, marking a significant career milestone for him
New York: Aaron Glenn has had quite the journey in the NFL. He’s been around the block with various teams, but his time with the Detroit Lions really set him up for this big opportunity.
After doing a fantastic job as the Lions’ defensive coordinator, the Jets decided to bring him on board with a five-year deal. It’s a big step for him, and the Jets are excited about it.
For years, the Lions were seen as a struggling franchise. But now, thanks to general manager Brad Holmes and coach Dan Campbell, they’re turning things around. Glenn and offensive coordinator Ben Johnson became hot commodities this offseason because of that success.
Speaking of Johnson, he just landed a head coaching gig with the Chicago Bears. And another coach from Detroit, Terrell Williams, is heading to the New England Patriots as their new defensive coordinator. It seems like everyone wants a piece of what the Lions are building.
Glenn earned this chance by transforming the Lions’ defense, even when injuries hit hard last season. Players respected him, which made him a sought-after candidate. In fact, a recent NFLPA survey named him the top defensive coordinator in the league.
As the offseason kicked off, Glenn was on every team’s radar looking for a new head coach. Dan Campbell praised him, saying he’s not just a great coach but an even better person. It’s hard to believe he hadn’t been hired sooner.
Glenn’s NFL journey began as a first-round pick for the Jets back in 1994. He played cornerback for 15 years with several teams. After hanging up his cleats, he started as a general manager in a smaller league before working his way up through scouting and coaching roles.
At 52, Glenn finally gets his shot to lead an NFL team. It’s been a long road, but he’s definitely one of the most exciting names in coaching right now.
