The Jacksonville Jaguars have officially parted ways with GM Trent Baalke as they search for a new head coach
Jacksonville: So, the Jaguars have decided to move on from Trent Baalke. They announced it on Wednesday, right in the middle of their search for a new head coach.
Owner Shad Khan said they both agreed it was best to part ways. He thanked Baalke for his work over the last five years. For now, Ethan Waugh will step in as the interim GM while they look for a new head coach.
Baalke had been with the Jaguars for four seasons, but things didn’t go so well. They only made the playoffs once, and this past season was a rough 4-13. He was brought in before the 2021 season, which ended with Urban Meyer getting fired after just a year. They also let go of Doug Pederson recently, making it a tough time for the team.
Initially, Khan didn’t want to fire Baalke when they let Pederson go. He thought it would be too much change at once. But things have been rocky since then. The top candidate for the head coach job, Liam Coen, decided to stay with the Buccaneers instead of coming to Jacksonville.
Now, the Jaguars are back to square one in their search for a new head coach. This will be the fourth head coach since they picked Trevor Lawrence first overall in the 2021 draft. They’ve already talked to a few other candidates, including Robert Saleh, Todd Monken, and Kellen Moore.
It seems like Khan is finally ready for a full reset in Jacksonville. But honestly, whoever takes over for both Pederson and Baalke is going to have a tough road ahead.
