Atlanta: So, it looks like the Falcons and Kirk Cousins are about to go their separate ways. ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the news that they’ll likely part ways after this season.

Cousins, who’s 36, just joined the Falcons this year. But it seems he’ll be cut before March 17, which is when he’s supposed to get a $10 million roster bonus. Ouch!

Things got a bit clearer when head coach Raheem Morris announced that rookie Michael Penix Jr. will be the starting quarterback for the rest of the season. With that move, it feels like Cousins’ exit was pretty much a done deal.

Remember, Cousins signed a hefty four-year, $180 million contract to come to Atlanta after spending six seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. But just two months later, the Falcons picked Penix with the No. 8 overall pick in the NFL draft. Talk about a quick turnaround!

Stay tuned for updates on this story as it unfolds.
