The Cowboys have completed their interview with Brian Schottenheimer, a strong candidate for their head coaching position
Dallas: So, the Cowboys just finished chatting with Brian Schottenheimer about their head coach gig. It looks like he’s the top pick for the job.
He’s been the offensive coordinator for the Cowboys for the last two years. Schottenheimer joined the team back in 2022 as a coaching analyst and got bumped up to OC when Kellen Moore left.
Last week, Moore had a virtual sit-down with the team, while former Jets coach Robert Saleh and Seattle’s Leslie Frazier had in-person chats recently to follow the Rooney Rule.
At 51, Schottenheimer is the son of the well-known NFL coach Marty Schottenheimer. He’s been the OC for teams like the Jets, Rams, Seahawks, and of course, the Cowboys. He’s also coached quarterbacks for Washington, the Chargers, and the Colts.
Interestingly, the Cowboys are the 10th NFL team to bring him on board, even though he hasn’t been a head coach before. But he could really help keep things steady for Dak Prescott, just like Moore would have.
Owner Jerry Jones usually goes for coaches he knows or those with head coaching experience. All four candidates the Cowboys have talked to fit that bill in some way.
