The Colts are bringing in Lou Anarumo as their new defensive coordinator after his recent dismissal from the Bengals
Indianapolis: So, Lou Anarumo is back in the game! Just weeks after getting the boot from the Bengals, he’s landed a gig with the Colts. Pretty wild, right?
He’s stepping in as the defensive coordinator under head coach Shane Steichen. Anarumo spent six years with the Bengals, but they let him go after a rough season where their defense ranked 25th in the league.
Right after the Bengals fired him, the Colts decided to part ways with Gus Bradley, their defensive coordinator for the last three seasons. Talk about timing!
Last season, the Colts’ defense wasn’t much better, sitting at 29th in the league. They even gave up a whopping 45 points to a struggling Giants team in a crucial game. Ouch!
Before his time in Cincinnati, Anarumo was coaching defensive backs for the Dolphins and Giants. He’s got 13 seasons of NFL experience under his belt, so he knows his stuff.
Remember that postseason run in 2021? Anarumo’s defense helped the Bengals make it all the way to the Super Bowl, allowing just 20.5 points per game. They even picked off Patrick Mahomes twice in the AFC championship game!
But this past season, the Bengals’ defense struggled, finishing 31st in yards allowed. The Colts are hoping that was more about the players than Anarumo’s coaching style.
It’ll be interesting to see how he turns things around in Indianapolis. Here’s hoping for some good changes!
