Liam Coen has reportedly accepted the Jaguars’ head-coaching position after initially agreeing to an extension with the Buccaneers
Tampa: So, it looks like Liam Coen is making some big moves! Just a day after agreeing to a sweet extension with the Buccaneers, he’s now set to be the head coach for the Jaguars. Crazy, right?
He had been a hot candidate for the job in Jacksonville but pulled out to stay with the Bucs. But now, after a second interview, he’s changed his mind. Reports say he’s already chatting with the Jaguars about his new role.
It’s interesting timing, especially since the Jaguars just fired their general manager, Trent Baalke. They had kept him around for a while, but after a rough four seasons, they decided it was time for a change.
There’s been some back and forth about whether Coen told the Bucs he was heading to Jacksonville. The Bucs claim he didn’t, while Coen insists he did let head coach Todd Bowles know. Talk about a messy situation!
Coen joined the Bucs last season and did a fantastic job with quarterback Baker Mayfield, helping the team become one of the top offenses in the league. They made it to the playoffs but got knocked out by the Commanders.
The Jaguars have had a rough offseason, firing head coach Doug Pederson after a disappointing 4-13 season. Coen is now stepping in to try and turn things around.
It’s a big change for the Jaguars, who are looking for their fourth head coach since drafting Trevor Lawrence in 2021. Lawrence had a tough time under the previous coaches, and now it’s up to Coen to help him shine.
Let’s see how this all plays out! Coen has a big job ahead of him, but it could be just the fresh start the Jaguars need.
